Is this the new “trend?”
We write newsletters on our own, no pitching to publications and wondering how to stand out, or worrying about the pay-rate. One, because this newsletter is free and I’m too terrified to send pitches because I’m overly critical about my writing.
Perhaps here is the space to allow my words to flow as freely as they did when I was six years old in first grade, where I wrote dumb prince x princess stories and used the kids in the class names because I didn’t know other names beyond “Sarah, Dylan, Nick” and so on, existed. The teacher scolded me because I would unintentionally pair them up, too. Not cool, but it was Catholic school afterall.
Giving a preview of this newsletter may shoot myself in the ass, but mixing music and past experiences might be the outlet I’ve been seeking.
Mangling these ideas together never vibed well in my writing workshop classes. It was one or the other, and we can’t get too journalistic or too creative in our prose. One or the other, PICK!
The limitations set has never served me well. Hopefully in this format, free-form and DIY in essence, allows me to give way to those ridiculous rules.
